Short description: Introduction to knowledge of the processes that from the geological structures and landforms, with special attention paid to post-glacial structures, landforms and sediments, which have the largest influence on properties, evaluation and productivity of soils and their spatial variability. Preparation to pedological evaluation and cartography of arable and forest soils.
Full description: Structure of earth system. Endogenic and egzogenic forces influencing morphology of earth surface. Morphological forms of land surface. Basic minerals and rocks. Weathering processes and products. Climate, land morphology and biosphere impacts on soil forming and transformation. Physical, hydraulic and chemical properties of soils. Soil fertility and productivity. Soil erosion and protection. Natural classification of soils. Principles of arable and forest soil evaluation. Principles of soil cartography.

Learning outcomes: Knowledge Student has a basic, ordered knowledge about earth structure, landforms, and the natural and anthropogenic factors influencing the productivity of soils Skills Student knows basic magmatic, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks; knows basic soil types and can evaluate their quality; knows the types and rules of preparation of the of soil-agricultural maps Social competences Student understands the need for continuous learning aimed in increasing of the professional and social competences. Students understands the importance of the work of the ingenieur-surveyor, the impact of professional decisions on the economy and environment, as well as is aware of professional and social responsibility of work of the engineer-surveyor.
Assessment methods and assessment criteria: grade obtained at classes (50%) + grade obtained at lectures (50%)
